The Harmful Impact of Lead-Based Paint Project

High school students studied the harmful impact of lead-based paint in their community and organized a fair with the Los Angeles Housing Department where residents could apply for free funding to remediate their homes of lead-based paint.

Overview of work students completed:

  • Analyzed the number of homes impacted by the use of lead-based paint in area.
  • Designed and created PSAs educating public on impact of lead-based paint.
  • Disseminated information via local organizations.
  • Organized community fair in collaboration with local organization to foster applications for free federal funding to remediate their homes of lead-based paint.
  • Publicly presented and guided community members through the federal application process, with supervision.

“The lessons you planned were so easy to implement and culminated in the most amazing real-world experience for my students – thank you!”
